Abstract

1,165,630. Automatic circuit-breakers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 6 Dec., 1967 [28 Dec., 1966], No. 55393/67. Heading H1N. A multi-pole circuit-breaker 3 has currentlimiting fuses 127 mounted on the insulating base 6 of the breaker housing 5 such that blowing of any fuse causes its plunger 137 to rotate a common tripping bar 145 mounted on the fuse cover 9 and thereby causes a trip bar 77 to operate the breaker, removal of the fuse cover 9 and bar 145 also causing operating movement of the trip bar 77. The plunger 137 engages arm 151 of bar 145 to rotate it, whereupon arm 179 of bar 145 engages and depresses a plunger 95 against its spring 107 to rotate the trip bar 77 to release latches 81, 71, to thereby release the breaker trip member 57. If a fuse 127 is missing when fuse cover 9 is replaced, a shoulder 159 on a spring-pressed plunger 157 engages arm 153 and maintains the bar 145 in its tripping position, Fig. 4, so that the breaker cannot be reset. If the fuse cover 9 is removed when none of the fuses has blown, a cam portion 181 of the cover releases spring-pressed plunger 93 and a shoulder 105 thereon engages trip bar 77 to operate the breaker and prevent resetting while the cover 9 is removed. Three openings are provided in cover member 8 for the adjusting knobs 199 of the magnetic trip means, the breaker also having thermal tripping. An arc extinguishing unit 70 is provided for contacts 22, 23. A bridging contact member 119 is supported on each switch arm 31 to bridge terminal conductors 15, 113, and the contact arm 25 is connected to conductor 113 by a flexible conductor (not shown). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 783,366.
