A self-advancing mine-roof supporting-system for a "stable" at the end of a longwall mineral-face F, Fig. 1A, comprises a plurality of supports 10, 11 adjacent the face SF of the stable and a further plurality of supports 12, 13 rearwardly of the first said supports, beams or bars 24 being lodged between adjacent supports to sustain the roof during advancement. Each of the supports 10, 11 includes a base 14, Fig. 2, and hydraulic props 15, 16, 19, 20 for beams 21, 22, two additional props 17, 18 being coupled to a yoke 23, or 23a, which carries the central portions of the adjacent beams 24. The supports 12, 13 are similar to the supports 10, 11 and include yokes 38 that carry the rearward ends of the. beams 24. The supports 10 are advanced while the supports 11 sustain the beams 24, the latter supports being advanced thereafter while the said beams are sustained by the supports 10. The supports 12, 13 are subsequently advanced in a similar manner, the props supporting the yokes being, thereafter retracted temporarily while the beams 24 are advanced by hydraulic rams (39, 40), Fig. 1B (not shown), which are mounted on said beams and connected to the yokes 23, 23a by cables (42). Conveyors C, SC are advanced by rams. (not shown) attached to the supports 10, 11, or 12, 13, these conveyors being advanced prior to advancement of the respective supports and used subsequently as anchors during advancement of the supports. To effect balancing of the end supports, supplementary beams or bars 24a,. 24b are provided, as shown.
