Abstract

1,164,738. Capacitors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 5 April, 1967 [19 May, 1966], No. 15709/67. Addition to 1,010,758. Heading H1M. The dielectric in a capacitor comprises poly- 2,6-diphenyl phenylene ether-1,4 having at least 100 monomer residues per molecule. The dielectric is preferably a biaxially oriented film. Wound capacitors may be formed from the film and staggered aluminium foils or strips of film may be metallized. The wound capacitor may be immersed in dielectric liquid in a casing. A second dielectric material, such as sheets of kraft paper, or mica paper, may also be used, or strips of kraft paper, glass cloth, asbestos or textile cloth may be impregnated or coated with the polymer. Fillers such as alumina or silica may be present.
