Abstract

1,164,497. Valves. GRINNELL CORP. 31 Oct., 1966 [16 Nov., 1965], No. 48694/66. Addition to 1,080,902. Heading F2V. The valve of the parent Specification is modified, in that the diameter of the end openings 14, 16 measured at right angles to the length of the flow passage is at least as great as the width dimension of the diaphragm opening 18 measured at the seat 36 at right angles to the length of the flow passage. The end openings are circular or approximately so. The ends of the flow passage may extend over a distance 12a, Fig. 1 (not shown), so that the required reduction in cross-sectional area takes place over a comparatively shorter distance corresponding to the remainder of the flow passage. The diaphragm opening may be of hour-glass shape, Fig. 18 (not shown). In the case of non-circular end openings, which do not differ greatly in their maximum and minimum dimensions, it is the maximum dimension which must be compared with the width dimension of the diaphragm opening.
