Abstract

1,164,026. Bag filling machines; pneumatic conveyers. FMC. CORP. 25 Jan., 1967 [28 Feb., 1966], No. 3641/67. Headings B8A and B8C. [Also in Division G1] A bag filling machine of the type in which material is fluidized in a closed chamber, the chamber being pressurized to provde a constant head above the material being discharged, includes time delay means controlling the material inlet and outlet valves and the pressurizing air so that after each filling operation, the material is permitted to flow into the chamber to make good approximately the amount discharged. The shut-off of the discharge is controlled by scale balance means. Inlet to the chamber 46 from a hopper 24 is controlled by a butterfly valve 29. A valve 199 controls the pressurizing air and fluidizing air enters the chamber directly from a pipe 163 and a plenum chamber 36 formed on a door 52 in the base. The chamber has a transparent front cover (49), Fig. 2 (not shown). The filling nozzle 26 has longitudinal grooves permitting escape of air and is pivoted by a pneumatic motor 114 to clamp or release a bag in cooperation with a shoe 94. Its flexible connection 62 to the chamber passes between bars 80, 81 of a pinch valve, see also Fig. 3 (not shown), the bars being linked to press or release the connection by a pneumatic motor 74. The bag rests on a saddle 124 with supports 120 and 122 which are adjustable for various bag sizes. When a filled bag is released from the nozzle, the saddle base tilts to eject it. The whole, together with the nozzle and damper means is suspended from scale beam 130 having counterweights 140, 146, the latter being adjustable for weight variation. When the desired weight is reached, the beams engage a pneumatic valve operating contact 152 causing closure of the pinch valve and of pressurizing air valve 199 and release of the bag. Also, the valve 29 is opened and adjustable time delay means retains it open before initiating the reverse operations to commence filling of another bag. When the valve 29 opens, the residue of air pressure escapes through the incoming material facilitating flow by preventing blockages. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 918,104.
