Abstract

1,163,794. Monoazo pigment dyes; printing inks. J. R. GEIGY AG. 31 May, 1967 [1 June, 1966], No. 25009/67. Headings C4A and C4P. The invention comprises monoazo pigment dyes of formula wherein X is Cl or Br, which are prepared by coupling diazotized 2-methoxy-4-nitroaniline with acetoacet - (2 - methyl - 4 - chloro - or bromo-anilide). The coupling may take place in the presence of alkanols, cyclic ethers, carboxylic acids or their amides, tertiary nitrogen bases, aromatic hydrocarbons which may be nitro- or halo-substituted, non-ionic or ionic dispersing agents, resins or resin soaps, protective colloids, oils and inorganic substrata. The pigment dyes are used to colour organic materials, in particular printing inks, in greenish-yellow shades. In examples: (3) the pigment dye wherein X is Cl is rubbed into a printing lacquer containing boiled linseed oil, cobalt octoate and lead octoate and the product printed on to coated paper; (4) the pigment dye wherein X is Br is rubbed into a printing ink with copper phthalocyanine, alumina hydrate and a printing varnish and the product used to print coated paper.
