A rubbery block oopolymer has at least one terminal block comprising a hydrohalogenated polymer of a substituted conjugated diene and at least one other block comprising a rubbery polymer of one or more hydrocarbon monomers. The copolymer is suitably a 2-block with the other block a polymer of an unsubstituted conjugated diene, or a 3-block, with the further block a thermoplastic polymer such as polystyrene. In the Examples (1) and (3) isoprenebutadiene - isoprene, (2) isoprene - butadienestyrene and (4) isoprene - butadiene block copolymers are prepared and hydrochlorinated.
