Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A manure drying and milling machine comprises a horizontal or inclined drum 16 rotated by a motor 15 through which a stream of hot gas from a burner 24 passes in countercurrent to the manure introduced by an elevator conveyor 40 into one end of the drum, which drum has three milling rollers 70, (71) 72 in the other end contacting the inner surface of the drum and means for limiting movement of the rollers away from a given working locality. The limiting means comprises retaining bars fixedly mounted on a metal plate 75 and extending therefrom into the interior of the rollers 70, (71) and outwardly therefrom to support a bar 79 overlying the inner or higher ends of the rollers to prevent undue axial movement bars 80, 81 may support retaining fingers radially overlying one or more of the rollers to restrict movement thereof away from the inner surface of the drum and an adjustably positioned grist plate 82 overlying the outer or lower ends of the rollers is supported by the retaining bars. Three separate groups of tumbler vanes 56, 58, 60 both inwardly and outwardly directed are mounted in the drum.
