Abstract
1,163,185. Merocyanine dyes. ILFORD Ltd. 6 May, 1968 [15 May, 1967 (2)], Nos. 22440/67, and 22443/67. Heading C4P. [Also in Division G2] The invention relates to merocyanine dyes of the formula wherein R 1 is alkyl, aralkyl or aryl, R 2 is alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aralkyl, carboxyaralkyl, carboxyalkyl, -(CH 2 ) n SO 3 H, where n is 1 to 6, -(CH 2 ) n SO 2 NHCOR 4 , where n is 1 to 6 and R 4 is alkyl, or -(CH 2 ) n .SO 2 .NHR 5 , where n is 1 to 6 and R 5 is alkyl or aralkyl, one of R 7 -R 9 is halogen or an amino or alkyl group and D is the residue of a ketoheterocyclic ring except that when D completes a rhodanine ring R 8 is not halogen. The ring completed by D may be a 1 - phenyl - 3 - ethyl - 2 - thiohydantoin or 3 - ethyl - 2 - thio - 2,4 - oxazolidine-dione ring. The dyes are prepared by the usual condensation methods.
