Abstract

1,162,896. Cushions. H. A. MAUCH. 13 Dec., 1967, No. 56535/67. Heading A4M. [Also in Division A3] A seat pad (or article of clothing) which ventilates the user (or wearer) comprises upper 10 (or inner) and lower 11 (or outer) layers of resilient plastics peripherally interconnected to define an enclosure 12 and a peripheral inlet 13 through which air under pressure is delivered, e.g. by a blower 15, each layer 10, 11 having an outer surface with a plurality of shape retaining hollow projections 16 defining a network of valleys 19 and the cavities 18 formed within the enclosure 12 by the projections 16 being mutually staggered on the layers 10, 11 so that they intercommunicate, and the upper (or inner) layer 10 being provided in its valleys 19 with openings 23 through which air discharges from the enclosure 12 on to the user (or wearer). The layers 10, 11 may be further secured together in contacting regions 21 in their base plane 17. The base of each projection 16 may be a regular polygon. Vent holes 22 may be included in the joined regions 21 to permit escape of air from the valleys 19 in the upper 10 (or inner) layer.
