Abstract

1,162,626. Hydrocracking petroleum oils. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 4 June, 1968, No. 26574/68. Addition to 1,059,692. Heading C5E. A process for the hydrocracking of a hydrocarbon oil according to Specification 1,059,692 in which a naphthenic kerosene feed having a total ring content of at least 50% by weight and a smoke point of 23 millimetres or less is converted to liquefied petroleum gas components, a light gasoline having a high iso to normal ratio of paraffins with five and/or six carbon atoms in their molecule and a heavy gasoline comprises the following steps: (a) hydrotreating the said naphthenic kerosene feed over a hydro-desulphurization catalyst at a pressure of less than 100 kilograms per square centimetre and a temperature of from 315‹ to 375‹ C., (b) hydrocracking the hydro-treated kerosene feed at a pressure less than 100 kilograms per square centimetre and a temperature of from 270‹ to 390‹ C., over a fluorided hydrocracking catalyst prepared as claimed in British Patent Specification 1,059,692 and comprising 0À1 to 14% by weight of nickel and 0À1 to 5% by weight of tungsten as the active metal components and having a silica-alumina carrier comprising at least 60% by weight of silica, (c) producing a hydrocracking effluent stream from which may be recovered liquid petroleum gas components, a light gasoline or a light gasoline fraction comprising C 5 and/or C 6 paraffins and having a final boiling point in the range of from 65‹ to 120‹ C. and a heavy gasoline or a heavy gasoline fraction with an initial boiling point corresponding with the final boiling point of the said light gasoline or light gasoline fraction, and (d) recycling to the hydrocracking stage of step (b) any residual fraction boiling above the final boiling point of the said heavy gasoline or gasoline fraction. High iso to normal ratio is defined as greater than 6 to 1. The hydrodesulphurization catalyst may comprise one or more oxides or sulphides of molybdenum, tungsten, cobalt or nickel supported on alumina, silica, zirconia, titania, bauxite, bentonite or mixtures thereof. During the hydrocracking step fluorine may be continuously added as hydrogen fluoride, fluorobenzene, fluoro-toluene or difluoroethane.
