Abstract

1,162,590. Coiling wire. HUTTENWERK OBERHAUSEN A.G. 12 Oct., 1967 [14 Oct., 1966], No. 46551/67. Heading B3E. A method of cooling rolled wire comprises laying the wire in constant diameter overlapping turns along a conveyer by means of a rotatable laying arm, and harmonically vibrating the arm and/or the conveyer at right-angles to the direction of advance of the conveyer with a frequency in the ranges:- 0À5 # to 1.5 f 2.5 f to 3.5 f 4.5 f to 5À5 # and so on where f = u/4#d, u being the wire speed in m./sec. and d the turn diameter in metres, the amplitude of vibration being 1 to 20% of the turn diameter, so that successive turns are displaced towards opposite sides of the conveyer. Frequencies in the higher ranges offer no advantages over those in the lower ranges and even multiples of the basic frequency will not necessarily avoid close spacing in the marginal zones.
