Abstract

1,162,559. A firing stand for missiles; launching missiles. NORD-AVIATION SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. 11 Nov., 1966 [31 Dec., 1965], No. 50799/66. Headings F3A and F3C. A firing stand for missiles 5 comprises a frame 1 on which is supported as by means of parallel lifting arms 3 a supporting chassis 2. A loading cradle 4 carrying a missile 5 is mounted on the supporting chassis 2, the chassis and cradle assembly being lifted from a lowered position such that the missile is presented to a launching platform 6 mounted on a jib 13 of the frame. The chassis-cradle assembly is held in its lowered position preferably by a rod (Fig. 3, not shown) which projects through an eye 40 in a lug 41 of the chassis 2, the rod being withdrawn by actuation of a pedal 11. The lifting arms 3 are actuated by a device 9 having a crank handle 10. The missile 5 rests on a slide 14 of the cradle 4 through the intermediary of two studs (Figs. 4, 5, 8, not shown) which co-operate with two apertures in the rear end of the missile, two lateral rollers towards the central portion and two sloping arms at the front portion and being locked thereon by a catch which is mounted on the sloping arms (Figs. 4, 6, 9, not shown). The jib 13 also supports a retaining device (Figs. 13 to 16, not shown) which in its inoperative position holds a pair of opposed locking rods against a spring loading. Ears of brackets 30 attached to uprights 31 of the chassis 2 urge the locking rods holding means away from the rods such that the rods move out of the retaining device to co-operate with holes 28 in the brackets 30. The retaining device is set through a slotted cam and linkage assembly. On reaching the loading position the slide 14 is unlocked from the cradle automatically by a cam, lever, rod assembly (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) and the slide is urged to the right in the drawing to withdraw the studs from the missile and release the catch locking the missile on to the cradle. The slide is then locked in the missile released position by the cooperation of a spring-loaded bolt with an aperture in the cradle. The missile is held on the launching platform 6 by two studs co-operating with the rear of the missile and a stud passing through an eye formed in a lug of the missile (Figs. 19 to 23, not shown). The lug of the missile co-operates with an articulated lever of a loaded explosive abutment mechanism through which the missile is launched by a command from a central telepiloting station at any time after the chassis-cradle assembly has been lowered from the loading position. The firing stand is disclosed as being for a sea-sea missile.
