[Also in Division H5] A heating section for a double backer machine for producing corrugated paperboard wherein a liquid-softened adhesive composition 11 is applied to the exposed peaks of the corrugations of a single-faced corrugated web 10 and a second facing sheet 13 is guided into contact with said peaks while the web and facing are travelling towards the heating section 15 to form an at least partially completed corrugated paper board, comprises a dielectric heating electrode structure including a dielectric heater comprising a plurality of pairs 24, 25 of parallel electrodes mounted at an angle less than 90 degrees with respect to the orientation of said corrugations in a manner such that, in operation, the electrodes are adjacent one of the aforesaid facing sheets of said at least partially completed corrugated paperboard, means for supplying high-frequency potentials between said pairs of parallel electrodes to heat and cure the adhesive composition, and a plenum 43 adjacent the first facing sheet of said at least partially completed paperboard and including a means for supplying a current of air to the interior thereof at a pressure and in a manner such that said at least partially completed paperboard is urged against said dielectric heating electrode structure. The heating structure 15 comprises four sections 20-23 and the electrodes in each section, spaced by ceramic spacers 26, are arranged at an angle of slightly less than 90 degrees to the line of corrugations of the web 10. The adhesive used may be a thermosetting adhesive, or, preferably, a starch-water adhesive.
