Abstract
1,161,836. Gonadotrophins. ELI LILLY & CO. 7 April, 1967 ,[8 April, 1966], No. 16034/ 67. Heading A5B. The conception rate and percent of live births in domestic female mammals (e.g. ewes, cows or sows) is increased by inseminating said female animal as it comes into estrus and then administering (e.g. by injection) a gonadotropin (e.g. pregnant mares serum, lutenizing hormones, follicle-stimulating hormone or. human chorionic gonadotropin) thereto from 1-16 days after estrus and insemination. The method of the invention is particularly useful in an estrus synchronization programme wherein cycling ewes are synchronized by treatment with a progestational agent (e.g. chlormadinone acetate) and, after estrus and insemination, the gonadotrophin is administered; for anestrus non-cycling ewes, an earlier treatment with a gonadotrophin is employed to induce follicular growth and initiate the estrus cycle.
