Abstract
1,161,733. Laminating apparatus; seaming non-metallic sheet material. RAEL-BROOK Ltd. 18 Oct., 1966 [29 Oct., 1965], No 45889/65. Headings B5K and B5N. A spot-fusing machine comprises at least one heating block 3 carrying a plurality of downwardly-extending fusing tools, e.g. pins or sockets 4. The block and pins are heated electrically to the desired fusing temperature. The heating block is mounted in a carrier 5, 5<SP>1</SP> for vertical reciprocating motion from a withdrawn position into a feeding position against a stack of material 7 placed upon a base-plate or bed 6. The machine is operated to cause the heating block to press down on to the material to be fused, which may be collar linings in which a patch of fusible thermoplastics material is being fused temporarily to a main lining, thus causing the fusion of these two materials at the points of contact of the pins 4. In the machine of the invention, means are provided in association with the heating pins or studs 4 for detaching the fused material 7 when fusion is complete. This detaching means may be a plate or bar 17 carried in a frame 18 having an arm 19 acted on by a tension spring 20 secured in the block 3. The frame 18 is pivotally mounted at 21, and when the block 3 is raised the frame 18 is pivoted in an anticlockwise direction by the spring action, and the fused material is detached from the pins or studs 4 by the bar 17, which has holes to accommodate the studs. The bar 17 may alternatively be moved by compression springs guided by the vertical guides 5<SP>1</SP> used for the heating block. The fusing tools may also comprise bars or blades.
