Abstract

1,161,719. Tunnelling machines. HUGHES TOOL CO. 9 Aug., 1967, No. 36644/67. Heading E1F. In a tunnelling machine there is provided an inner box frame 3 that can be releasably anchored in a tunnel as the tunnel is being driven, two spaced apart sets of individually adjustable leg assemblies that terminate in slide shoes 5, a boring head-carrying outer frame 2 slidably mounted on the shoes and ram means between the two frames for causing relative movement of the frames. Variation of the lengths of the leg assemblies will cause change in the angular relationship between the central, longitudinal axes of the frames and so permit of steering of the machine as it is advanced.
