Abstract

1,161,052. Silicone rubbers. DOW CORNING CORP. 11 Aug., 1966 [18 Aug., 1965], No. 36038/66. Heading C3T. A flame-resistant composition comprises a siloxane elastomer stock in which the Si atoms of the siloxane have monovalent hydrocarbon radicals bonded thereto and are free from Sibonded H atoms, a silica filler, and at least 1 pt. (by wt.) per million of the elastomer stock of Pt, e.g. as a finely divided metal or preferably as a salt or complex, many examples of which are given. In a typical Example (1) a dimethylmethylvinylpolysiloxane gum, fume SiO 2 , diphenylsilanediol, a hydroxylated methyl polysiloxane, a vinylorganosiloxane, quartz, a solution of H 2 PtCl 6 and bis(2,4-dichlorobenzoyl) peroxide were compound and heat cured to yield a flame resistant elastomer. Uses.-For electrical insulation.
