Abstract
1,161,023. Polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene. DAIKIN KOGYO CO. Ltd. 13 June, 1967 [15 June, 1966], No. 27223/67. Heading C3P. Tetrafluoroethylene is polymerized at a temperature of 0‹ to 40‹ C. and a pressure of 0 to 30 atmospheres in an aqueous medium containing an inorganic polymerization initiator system and having a pH within the range of 5À0 to 10À0 while adding a buffer agent in an amount necessary to maintain the aqueous medium at a given pH within the range during the polymerization. Using an initiator system comprising an inorganic peroxide crude polytetrafluoroethylene particles may be prepared which when pulverized give a non-fibrous granular powder having a wet-sieve size of not greater than 40 microns, a shape factor of not more than 15, an anisotropic expansion coefficient within the range of 1À02 to 1À26 and a surface smoothness of at least 15 seconds. In the examples were used; KH 2 PO 4 , Na 2 HPO 4 , Na 2 B 4 O 7 , (NH 4 ) 2 S 2 O 8 , NaHSO 3 and FeSO 4 .
