Abstract
1,160,967. Coated fibre board. ARMSTRONG CORK CO. 27 July, 1966 [27 July, 1965], No. 33795/66. Heading B2K. [Also. in Division D2] A method of making fibreboard having improved sag resistance comprises subjecting one surface of the fibreboard to an abrasive treatment .and coating the other surface with a coating material e.g. melamine-formaldehyde resin, starch or proteinaceous material which penetrates and acts as an individual binder for the fibres in the surface region of the board. In a preferred method fibreboard is fed from board-forming machine 20 to screen press 27 where it is compressed and dried, the product being coated at 34, cut into individual boards by saw 38, the boards being moisture conditioned by headers 42, stored and the uncoated surfaces abraded 'by rough sanding belt 64 and finish sanding belt 45. Optionally, the sanded or both surfaces of the boards are then painted and dried. The coating may be applied whilst the board is still wet, alternatively abrading may be effected prior to coating.
