Abstract

In the production of large area thin ceramic building panels, a piece of plastic ceramic cut from a ram or screw extruded section is passed through a first pair of rolls and rolled in the longitudinal direction of the original extrusion and then passed through a further pair of rolls and rolled in a direction perpendicular thereto; the rolling in the perpendicular direction may be effected by the further roll pair at right angles to the first pair or the rolled piece may be rotated through 90 degrees between successive parallel pairs of rolls. If projections are required for hanging the dried panels prior to firing thereof, these are preferably provided at the edge of the panel extending perpendicularly to the original direction of extrusion so that this direction corresponds to the vertical direction of the hung panel.
