Abstract

1,160,851. Calender rolls. KARLSTADS MEKANISKA WERKSTAD A.B. 13 March, 1968 [23 March. 1967], No. 12130/68. Heading F2U. A calender roll 2 consists of a series of discs 5 of biaxially oriented plastics sheet material mounted on a central core 1 and axially compressed between end plates 4 by nuts 3. The discs may be of polyester, polyolefin, polyamide or polystyrene sheet which has been treated by stretching in at least two directions at a comparatively high temperature whereby the molecules are to a great extent oriented in the plane of the sheet and are of an essentially crystalline structure. The treatment reduces hysteresis loss due to deformation of the roll in the nip and thus reduces the temperature rise in use.
