[Also in Division C7] A continuous heat treatment apparatus for cooling a multiplicity of articles or separable parts of one article, such as individual loops of a coil of steel wire 13, discharged from a furnace 5 comprises a perforated conveyer belt 1 in the form of chain links, rollers, or metal mesh, on which the articles or parts are carried through the heat treatment housing 15. The housing is divided by baffles 17 into a plurality of compartments 19A-19F above and below the belt through which a fluid (air, inert or reactive gas, or liquid) is consecutively circulated by an impeller 21. By this means, the heat treatment of the parts or articles is more uniformly effected. Heat exchange means 23, 25, 27 for cooling the circulating fluid are included in the housing 15.
