Abstract

1,160,412. Vehicle wheels. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 3 Nov., 1966 [12 Aug., 1965], No. 34476/65. Heading B7C. A pneumatic tyre and rim assembly comprises a flat-base rim 1 for mounting on a wheel body 2, as by bolted lugs 7, and is formed with radially outwardly projecting flanges 3, 4 to seat the beads 10, 11 of a tubeless, pneumatic tyre 9. The flange 3 and the adjacent bead seating portion 5 of the rim base 6 is initially depressed radially inwardly for fitting of the tyre and thereafter is expanded as shown in dotted lines to achieve a firm engagement of the bead and flange. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3, not shown, a rim has a central well portion to allow fitting of the tyre, which portion is expanded radially outwardly to assume a concave curvature.
