A device for interpolating between zero crossings of two phase-modulated signals S 1 = A cos [#/2 (x/d + c sin #t)] and S 2 = A sin [#/2(x/d + c sin #t)] derived e.g. as in Specification 997,405 includes an auxiliary counter 22 (Fig. 2) receiving a pulse for each positive and negative zero crossing of S 1 and S 2 . In the embodiment described the counter 22 has a capacity of 8, - 4 to + 3, the length of time the count is # 0 in one cycle representing α, where x/d = H + α. The integer H is held in a main counter 23.
