Abstract
1,159,860. Testing storage tanks for leaks. WOLFGANG OECHSSLER KUNSTSTOFFSONDERMASSEN G.m.b.H. Sept. 20, 1967 [Sept. 26, 1966], No.42736/67. Heading G1N. [Also in Division E1] A cylindrical liquid container with a sealed flexible inner envelope has an electrical transducer in the bottom between the envelope and the container which senses liquid leaks by a change in impedance. The space between the envelope and the wall of the container is maintained partially evacuated by a pump whose frequency of operation is monitored. The cylindrical container with its axis horizontal has a circular dome 2 Figs. 1, 2 mounted on it, sealed by a lid 3. The envelope 4, spaced from the wall 1 by plastic bridges, extends into the dome, and the space 26 between envelope and wall is sealed by a ring 27 extended by a turnbuckle 29 to compress the rim 4a between a pressure rib bar 30 and a sealing ring 28. The envelope 4 may be strenghtened by tyres 32. A tube 6 from the space 26 is attached at 8 to a pipe 9 extending through lid 3 to a member 11 which is coupled to a pump 19. The pressure in space 26 is sensed electrically and is maintained at a predetermined value by pump 19, the frequency at which pump 19 is operated being measured at 20. The liquid sensor 14 at the bottom of space 26 is connected by lead 13 to a bridge circuit 21 where its impedance is measured. Excessive values at 20 or 21 are sensed by an alarm device 22.
