Abstract
1,159,720. Zinc-air battery. GULF GENERAL ATOMIC Inc. 12 Jan., 1967 [14 Jan., 1966], No. 1734/67. Addition to 1,028,548. Heading H1B. The storage battery of Specification 1,028,548, in which each cell has a zinc anode, a porous inert oxygen electrode and electrolyte which is passed through the space between the electrodes, which electrolyte may be circulated outside the cell to a device for reversibly separating and storing the zinc oxide reaction product, may be modified (a) by having a cathode comprising a porous plate and a thin inert plate which is deformed, e.g. by a rectangular recess, to define, in conjunction with the porous plate, a plenum chamber through which oxygen-containing gas is supplied to the porous plate, which porous plate is electrically and structurally connected in a gas-tight manner to the thin plate about the periphery of the deformation, and/or (b) by having only a part of the electrolyte circulating outside the cell pass through the means for separating reaction products before being returned to the cell.
