Abstract

1,159,678. Battery with separators having edges trapped in the casing. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 18 Oct., 1966 [27 Oct., 1965], No. 45597/65. Heading H1B. An alkaline battery comprises a plurality of parts defining the cells of the battery and an assembly of plates and separators within each cell, the separators being sheets of insulating material the edges of which are trapped between the parts defining the cell except at the point where electrolyte is introduced into the cell. In a preferred form the parts defining the cells are identical, except for those defining the outermost parts of the end cells, and provide a battery of circular cross-section. Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of the invention wherein the cell contains an array of battery plates 15 and separators 16 (seen in section), the edges of the separators being trapped between outer and inner flanges of the cell-defining units 11 (see lower edge); each part 11 is formed with a pair of ports 18 which communicate with adjacent cells and by means of which electrolyte is distributed.
