Abstract

1,159,639. Vehicle headlamps. ADAM OPEL A.G. 14 March, 1968 [18 March, 1967], No. 12343/68. Heading F4R. A vehicle headlamp is pivotally mounted about an axis 5 extending generally fore and aft of the vehicle so that it can be moved between an aperture position (as shown) and a retracted position in which the lamp casing 3 is substantially flush with the vehicle body 6, 7. The casing has a ball pivot 9 at the front mounted in a socket 10 and a pivot pin 11 at the rear which is journalled in a guide bar 14 and is adapted to be driven by an electric motor 12 controlled by the driver. The bar 14 and motor 12 are carried by a base plate 15 which can be adjusted by a screw 17 to vary the inclination of the axis 5. The screw may be operated by the driver through a Bowden cable, and the motor 12 may be replaced by a Bowden cable or a pressure operated device. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) the housing is of tetrahedral shape, the headlamp being located in the forwardly directed face and the pivot axis lying along one rearwardly directed edge.
