Abstract
115,943. Cox, H. W., and Cowell, J. H. June 26, 1917. Switches, quick-action.-In step-bystep snap-action switches actuated by a turn-knob connected to the switchblade carrier D through a spring H, which is strained while the blade carrier is held, the holding-means consists of a detent F mounted on an eccentric B fast on the turn-knob spindle A, and having, in addition to the detent face F<2>, a projection F<3>, the face and projection engaging the fixed stops C<1>. The blade-carrier has a crank-pin E movable in a slot F<1> in the detent. When the spindle is turned, the detent is moved inwards by the eccentric until the face F<2> leaves the stop C' the crank-pin is then at the outer end of the slot, and positive disengagement of the switch blades from the fixed contacts is ensured. The spindle has to be turned for each switch movement a greater angular distance than exists between successive stops C', so that after the blade-carrier has moved, the spindle retracts slightly, and the eccentric forces the projection F<3> against the stop and prevents return movement of the blade-carrier. Reverse movement of the spindle A with respect to the blade-carrier is prevented by the crank-pin entering a notch B<1> in the eccentric.
