Abstract
1,159,326. Hydrolysis of aminoacetonitriles. W. R. GRACE & CO. 13 Feb., 1968 [15 Feb., 1967; 14 Nov., 1967], No. 6943/68. Heading C2C. Amino acetonitriles are hydrolysed with formation of an alkali metal amino carboxylate by reacting an alkali metal hydroxide and an amino acetonitrile in an aqueous reaction medium under autogenous pressure at a temperature of 70 to 160 C. and the dissolved ammonia is subsequently separated from the hydrolysate mixture. The autogenous pressure developed may reach 2 to 6 atmospheres. The pressure over the hydrolysate mixture may be subsequently reduced to 1 atmosphere absolute or less to release the dissolved ammonia. The hydrolysis of nitrilotriacetonitrile (NTAN) and ethylenediaminetetraacetonitrile (EDTAN) is exemplified.
