Abstract

1,159,133. Benzothiopyranopyridine derivatives. SANDOZ Ltd. 31 Oct., 1966 [24 Nov., 1965], No. 48636/66. Heading C2C. Novel benzothiopyranopyridine derivatives of the Formula (I) wherein n represents 0, 1 or 2, and their acid addition salts, are prepared (1) by reacting the corresponding N-methyl compounds with a chloroformic acid C 1-4 alkyl esters to form urethanes of the Formula (III) wherein R represents a C 1 _ 4 alkyl radical, and hydrolysing the urethanes to give compounds of Formula (1), or (2) when n represents 1 or 2, by oxidizing the corresponding compounds in which n represents 0 or 1, and, if desired, converting the products into an acid addition salts with an organic or inorganic acid. Therapeutic compositions having histaminolytic, anticholinergic and serotonin and tryptamine antagonistic properties and useful in the treatment of allergies, and vegetative dystonia, contain compounds of Formula (I) as active ingredient. The composition may be in a form suitable for enteral or parenteral application.
