Brush-making machines. - In a brush-stock drilling machine the vertical axis upon which the frame carrying the work-holder and templet turns is arranged upon a carriage fitted with wheels, rollers, or other antifriction devices, by which it may travel along a track in line with the drill. In the construction shown, the work-holding devices 16, preferably of the kind described in Specification 115,888, are carried by a frame comprising rod 11, racks 12, bar 13, rods 14, and plate 15 mounted to turn about the vertical axis 20 arranged upon a carriage 24 having wheels 25 to engage a V-shaped track 26 in a plate 27 movable to different positions on the bed 1. The carriage is kept upright by a pair of rollers 29 which engage fixed rails 30. To vary the angular spread of the holes in the stock in an horizontal direction, the rack rods 14 can be moved in the bearings 42 by the hand-wheel 45. The angular spread in a vertical direction is similarly varied by the handwheel 55 adjusting the rack rods 12 in the bearings 50, relative to the axis of the bar 13. Instead of operating the rack-gears by hand-wheels, they may be operated through suitable connexions from a treadle &c. or by automatic means.
