Abstract
1,158,316. Heating buildings. ANDREWSWEATHERFOIL Ltd., and L. J. FOWLER. 28 Oct., 1966 [16 Aug., 1965], No. 35055/65. Heading F4U. In each flat of a block three fans 16 blow air over three heat exchangers of different heat output and resistances are arranged in the fan motor circuits in such manner that the electricity consumption recorded by a meter 17 is proportional to the heat output of the heat exchangers and may thus be used as a basis for the heating charge levied on the flat. As illustrated, the fan motors of the heat exchangers having the higher outputs are shunted by resistances 19 and 20 whose values are such that the electricity consumed in each fan circuit is proportional to the output of the associated heat exchanger. Each fan circuit may be provided with a solenoid switch or a thermal switch, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), in such manner that if the resistance 19 or 20 burns out, the associated fan is rendered inoperative. The heat exchangers are basically identical but are adapted to have different heat outputs by the inclusion of baffles (15), Fig. 1 (not shown), which blank off air flow from portions of the heat exchangers. In another embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the heat exchangers are identical, but have different outputs by virtue of resistances connected in series with the fan motors to reduce the speed of the latter.
