1,157,429. S-Acylated thioglycollic acids. PHRIX-WERKE A.G. 18 June, 1968 [19 June, 1967; 14 Sept., 1967], No. 28949/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions C3 and D1] S-acylated derivatives of thioglycollic acid are made by the reaction of thioglycollic acid with benzoyl chloride or the anhydride of acetic, caproic, stearic, acetylsalicylic, o- or terephthalic, adipic or succinic acid. In the case of succinic anhydride, the product may be the mono- or di-thioglycollic acid derivative; use of the other dicarboxylic anhydrides results in the di-derivative. Carboxymethyl mercaptoacetyl thioglycollic acid is made by reaction of 2 moles of thioglycollic acid and 1 mole of chloroacetyl chloride, in the presence of 4 moles of NaOH.
