Abstract

1,157,357. Increasing sugar yield. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 5 June, 1968 [21 Aug., 1967], No. 38433/67. Addition to 1,103,000. Heading C1B. Sugar cane shoots are treated with abscisic acid at least 4 weeks before harvesting. The plants may be 4 months old. At least 15 mg. of abscisic acid per sugar cane shoot may be applied. The abscisic acid may be applied as a composition in the form of powder, granules, paste, emulsion, or solution. Known carriers, surface active agents, and protective colloids may be present. The composition may be slow release. Abscisic acid is 3-methyl-5-(1-hydroxy- 4 - oxo - 2,6,6 - trimethyl - 2 - cyclohexen - 1 - yl) - 2,4 - pentadienoic acid.
