1,157,343. Polyamide filaments and films. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. 8 Aug., 1966 [27 Aug., 1965], No. 35485/66. Heading B5B. [Also in Division C3] Filament, fibre, yarn, cord or strapping is produced by drawing a melt blended polymeric material comprising at least 60 wt. per cent nylon (any balance being a compatible polymer) and more than 0À1 but less than 1 wt. per cent of a defined, relatively incompatible, waxy thermally stable diamide at a draw ratio exceeding the draw ratio at break of the material without the diamide. The diamide is defined as having the formula R 2 -CO-NR 4 -R 1 -NR 5 -CO-R 3 or R 2 -NR 4 -CO-R 1 -CO-NR 5 -R 3 where R 1 is C 2-12 alkylene, R 2 and R 3 are C 2-30 alkyl, aralkyl or alicyclic groups, R 4 and R 5 are H, CH 3 or the same as R 2 and R 3 , no R group contains more than one double bond (not if it is less than C 6 ) and there are no more than 4 double bonds in the whole molecule. The preferred diamide is N,N<SP>1</SP>-ethylene bis-stearamide (commercially available under the Trade Mark Acrawax C") but several others are also specified. The polymer may be nylon 4, 5, 6, 7, 6I, 6T, 66, or 610 or a block copolymer or blend thereof with other polymers, e.g. polycarbonates, polyethylene terephthalates, polyacrylonitrile and polymers of the acrylic and styrene families.
