1,157,307. Polymers containing sulphonate and thiocarbonate linkages. BORG-WARNER CORP. 19 July, 1966, No. 32445/66. Heading C3R. Copolymers containing sulphonate and thiocarbonate linkages are made by reacting (a) at least one bisphenol with (b) 25 to 75 mole per cent of an arylene disulphonyl chloride and correspondingly (c) 75 to 25 mole per cent of thiophosgene. A large number of reactants of types (a) and (b) are specified. Reaction is preferably effected by the interfacial process, reactant (a) being dissolved in aqueous alkali and reactants (b) and (c) in an organic solvent. In an example bisphenol-A, 4: 4<SP>1</SP>-biphenyldisulphonyl chloride and thiophosgene were reacted. Uses.-Films, fibres, mouldings, coatings, adhesives. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 927,178 and 975,813.
