Night-latches and like spring locks. -The bolt of a spring latch lock is automatically checked when retracted from outside or inside the door, facilitating the opening of a door fitted with two or more latches. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the sliding piece D has a slot E through which the pin F attached to the spring bolt G passes; when the bolt is withdrawn, the piece D descends and holds it back. In the modification shown in Fig.. 6, the plate M pivoted at N has a branched slot O; when the bolt G is drawn back, the pin F is held in the curved part of the slot. Fig. 7 shows the invention applied to a night-latch of known form. The part Q on the back of the bolt head P passes through a slot U' in the sliding piece U, which falls to hold the bolt back.
