Abstract
1,156,346. Hydrogenated diene polymers. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 18 July, 1967 [20 July, 1966], No. 33030/67. Heading C3P. A polymer that has been obtained by solution polymerization of at least two of butadiene, isoprene and styrene in the presence of a lithium hydrocarbyl catalyst and in which at least 50% of the monomer units are randomly distributed and which has an intrinsic viscosity of 0À1 to 1À0 dl/g. is partially or completely hydrogenated. The reaction preferably is carried out in the polymerization solution in the presence of a catalyst comprising nickel naphthenate and triethyl aluminium. In the example butadiene and styrene are copolymerized in cyclohexane with sec-butyl lithium to 25% conversion, whereon polymerization was stopped with isopropanol.
