Fuze cord is made by passing an explosive core material, already encased by a layer predominantly of thermoplastics material in the form of filaments, fibres, or strips wound or spun round the core, through a heated die maintained at a temperature sufficient to result in welding together of the thermoplastics material to form a substantially continuous casing. The temperature is about 110‹ C. for polyethylene and about 160‹ C. for polyamides. A layer of paper or textile material may be placed next to the core.
