Abstract

1,154,760. Urea adduction process. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 21 Nov., 1967, No. 52931/67. Heading C5E. A process for the separation of a mixture of compounds part of which is able to form solid adducts with an adducting agent comprising urea or thiourea comprises introducing the mixture to be separated and solid ammoniate of the adducting agent and/or a solution of the said ammoniate and/or of the adducting agent in liquid ammonia into a reaction zone in which the operating pressure is below the equilibrium pressure of the said solid ammoniate and/or of the said liquid ammonia solution, the quotient of the said operating pressure and the said equilibrium ammonia pressure being not less than 0À2. The equilibrium pressure is stated to vary from about 5 atmospheres absolute at 10‹ C. to over 12 at. abs. at 70‹ C. and preferred operating pressures are in the range of 0À45 to 0À9 times the equilibrium pressure. The mixture to be separated may be a waxy oil distillate. A hydrocarbon diluent may be added.
