[Also in Division C3] A method of making a laminated glass structure comprises assembling a plurality of glass laminµ in superposed relationship, at least one of the opposed surfaces of each laminµ pair bearing a coating of an ethylene polymer containing therein recurring groups of the formula (a) -CH 2 -CH 2 - and recurring groups of the formula (b) and optionally recurring groups selected from (c) where R is hydrogen or an alkyl group, R 1 is hydrogen or a cation, e.g. sodium, potassium, lithium, ammonium, substituted ammonium, quaternary ammonium, magnesium, calcium or aluminium, R 2 and R 3 are hydrogen, hydroxyalkyl or hydrocarbon or form together with nitrogen a heterocyclic ring and R 4 is hydroxyalkyl or hydrocarbon, the groups of formulµ (b), (c) and (d) being present in a total ratio of 0À01 to 0À50 mole per mole of (a) and heating under a light pressure. The polymers may be made by hydrolysing a copolymer of ethylene with an ester of acrylic or an α-substituted acrylic acid in the presence of a strong base, e.g. an alkali metal hydroxide or quaternary ammonium hydroxide and optionally ammonia or an amine and are preferably applied to the glass laminµ in the form of aqueous dispersions, the water being evaporated prior to the assembly of the laminµ. Alternatively, the polymer may be applied in the form of films or tapes.
