Abstract

115,311. Roy, C. S., and Morson & Son, T. June 2,1917. Gases, washing and absorbing.-Apparatus for washing and absorbing gases, particularly from chemical reactions, comprises two parts, a tower filled with rings, &c., and a chamber fitted with partitions, suitable liquids or solvents being supplied to the two parts. As shown in the drawing, the tower is provided with an inlet 62, and an outlet 74 for the gases, and a sump 68 for collecting the solution. The absorber 75 is provided with baffles 81, 81a, which may be vertical or inclined, and a compartment 76 from which the solvent flows over the baffles. A valve 79 is provided for passing the gases directly to the absorber if desired. The bottom of the sump has a discharge pipe 69 with three valves so that the liquid may be returned to the tower, passed to the absorber, or discharged. The liquid which collects in the bottom of the absorber may be returned to the vessel 76 by a pump 85 and pipe 86, or otherwise disposed of.
