Abstract
1,153,068. Double-walled heat exchangers. EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY (EURATOM). 2 Sept., 1966 [6 Sept., 1965], No. 39392/66. Heading F4S. In a double-walled heat exchanger wherein a leak detection gas is circulated through a space 5 separating heat exchanger walls 3, 4, flexible heat conducting plates 6 engaging the walls 3, 4 are disposed in the space 5. As shown, longitudinal grooves 7 formed in the wall 4 prevent the V-shaped plates 6 from moving laterally. The gas passes through leak-detectors which may be either inside or outside the space 5. Other shaped plates 6 such as triangular, circular, trapezoidal X- or M-shaped may be used. The plates may be of bimetallic material (Figs. 5, 6, not shown) and so constructed that they tend to straighten with increased temperature differential across the space thus increasing their contact pressure with the walls 3 and 4.
