Abstract
1,152,198. Missile launch simulator. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, NAVY, SECRETARY OF. 23 Aug., 1966 [23 Aug., 1965], No. 37852/66. Heading F3C. A missile launch simulator comprises an underwater tube type missile launching system comprising a launching tube 21 within a supporting tube 22 in which the tactical moisture probe is replaced by a dummy moisture probe 44 and dynamic missile simulators 43 are arranged on the missile support ring 24. The missile control center 41 is provided with a dummy triggering inverter unit 42. The missile launching system further comprises a rupturable diaphragm 39 which covers the tube 21 and normally protects a missile from seawater when a hatch 30 of the system is opened. When used as a simulator the missile launching system tube 21 is filled with water 51 equivalent to the weight of an operational missile, the tube 21 being pressurized through a snorted unit 54. On the launching command being generated from the missile control center 41 a departure switch plunger is released by each dynamic simulator 43 to simulate the missiles first motion. The dummy triggering inverter unit 42 transmits a release signal from a launching relay to missile simulator solenoids of the dynamic simulators 43 upon launch command. The diaphragm 39 is then ruptured and the launching tube 21 fills with water to effect post launching conditions. The rupturing of the diaphragm 39 may be delayed by an electrical signal delay located in a box 55 for several simulated firings to give the "ripple" effect caused normally by multiple missile launchings.
