Abstract

1,151,842. Increasing attenuation in cables. D. F. BINNS. 12 Jan., 1967 [12 Jan., 1966], No. 1408/66. Heading H1A. High frequency fault or surge currents in cables are attenuated by one or more layers of high resistivity conducting material applied to the outer surface of the conductor, or other metal path, such as the sheath. Each layer may consist of strands or a sleeve applied to the conductor or to the inner surface of its sheath and may be of nickel-chromium or copper-nickel alloys. Alternatively, the layer may be of fine strands of conductive material, e.g. copper or aluminium, woven with fine strands of e.g. glass fibre or nylon, or layers of metallized insulating tape may be used. The covering may be of insulated or bare wire or strip and arranged between layers of a multi-layer covering.
