Abstract

1,151,681. Polyurethanes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 Feb., 1968 [24 Feb., 1967], No. 8852/67. Heading C3R. Polyurethane articles are prepared by meltextruding a composition comprising a polyester- or polyether-urethane elastomer and at least one straight-chain saturated aliphatic mono-amide containing at least 8 carbon atoms in the straight chain. The articles may be in the form of filaments, yarns or films. The addition of the amides reduces the tackiness of the surface of the elastomers during and after processing and addition may take place during elastomer manufacture, by coating on to elastomer grains before extrusion or by addition to the molten elastomer before extrusion. Suitably 0À5 to 1À5% of mono-amide by weight of the final polymer is added. Stearamide is the preferred mono-amide.
