1,151,394. Pyridoxal derivatives. FUJISAWA PHARMACEUTICAL CO. Ltd. 29 June, 1967 [29 June, 1966; 2 July, 1966; 8 July, 1966; 11 July, 1966; 30 Sept., 1966; 3 Oct., 1966], No. 30156/67. Heading C2V. The invention comprises pyridoxal derivatives of formula where R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl group which may be substituted by carboxy, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkoxycarbonyl, aryl, carbamoyl or a heterocyclic group, or R<SP>1</SP> may be an aryl group which may be substituted by a halogen, carboxy, alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkoxycarbonyl or carbamoyl, R<SP>2</SP> is an acyl group and R<SP>3</SP> is a hydrogen atom or an acyl or phosphono group, or R<SP>2</SP> may be a hydrogen atom when R<SP>3</SP> is a hydrogen atom and R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl group substituted by carboxy, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkoxycarbonyl or a heterocyclic group, or R<SP>1</SP> is aryl substituted with carboxy, alkylthio, alkoxycarbonyl or carbamoyl. The compounds of Formula (I) may be prepared by reacting pyridoxal with an amine R<SP>1</SP>-NH 2 to obtain a 4- formimidoyl - 5 - hydroxy - 3 - pyridinemethanol derivative of formula and then reacting this compound (III) with an acylating agent. Alternatively pyridoxal may be reacted with an acylating agent to obtain 1,7 - diacyloxy - 1,3 - dihydrofuro - [3,4-c]- pyridine derivative of formula hydrolysing the compound (IV) to obtain a 1 - acyloxy - 7 - hydroxy - 1,3 - dihydrofuro- [3,4-c]-pyridine derivative of formula and then reacting the compound (V) with an amine R<SP>1</SP>-NH 2 to obtain the 4-formimidoyl- 5 - acyloxy - 3 - pyridinemethanol derivative of Formula (I) above. Examples are given.
