Abstract

1,151,023. Polyolefin compositions. HERCULES Inc. 19 May, 1967 [25 May, 1966], No. 23500/67. Heading C3P. Polyolefin compositions comprise 80 to 99À5 weight per cent of a stereo-regular polyolefin and 0À5 to 20 weight per cent of a basic polyamide comprising the reaction product of a dicarboxylic acid or derivative thereof and a polyamine containing two primary and/or secondary amino groups and one or more tertiary amino groups, said polyamide being present in amount sufficient to provide 0À1 to 1À0 weight per cent of basic nitrogen in the composition. Up to 60 weight per cent of the polyamine may be replaced by a diamine. The polyolefin may be linear polyethylene, isotactic polypropylene and stereo-regular poly(4-methyl-pentene-1). The compositions may be formed by mixing the polymers, optionally with solvents and/or dispersing agents such as long chain fatty alcohols. The compositions may be made into fibres, films, mouldings and extrusions having enhanced dye affinity. Many suitable acids and amines are listed including oxalic, alkylene and azoalkylene dicarboxylic, phthalic, bis alkylene phenylene, and N-substituted piperidine, quinoline and isoquinoline dicarboxylic acids; and polyalkylene, polycycloalkylene and polyarylene polyamines, amino substituted heterocyclic nitrogen compounds and optionally alkylene or arylene diamines. In examples isotactic polypropylene is mixed with polyamides derived from (1) azelaic acid, bis (3-aminopropyl) methylamine and hexamethylenediamine; and (2) sebacic acid, bis (3-aminopropyl)methylamine and hexamethylenediamine; sebacic acid N-aminoethyl piperazine and hexamethylene-diamine; and azelaic acid, N-aminoethyl piperazine and hexamethylenediamine.
